Principal's Message for Cougar Football

The team meets in the north end zone like they have been doing for 39 years before every game, chanting and patting each other on the helmet. They look up at the new 5,000 seat stadium, then down to the brilliant green artificial turf that yields softly under the weight of their cleats. They charge out to mid-field, the turf springing back ready for another player's high-stepping charge. The newly designed 21st century scoreboard flashes, "Go Cougars". Players' pride swells; they are witness to not just the beginning of a new season, but to a new era in Norco football.

The new stadium will encourage the institution of Cougar Football to grow even bigger and bring to our campus a strong contingent of hardworking, dedicated and committed football players. This year we continue to compete in the "Big VIII"; some might consider the most competitive league in all of California. It will help make us strong to play the very best week after week. Our parents and community can be real proud of our leadership under the direction of head football coach Todd Gerhart (two CIF Championships) and his staff.

Our young men maintain high standards on and off the field. They are expected to be excellent role models in our community and at school. We take pride in their accomplishments, as many earn scholarships to NCAA and NAIA schools. We know that these student athletes will compete to the best of their ability not only on the football field, but in the classroom as well.

A key element to any successful program is the support of its school and community fan base. At Norco we are blessed with a large number of parents, students, staff, and community members who will continue to fill our stands in support of our players and team. As you read ads, please continue to support these businesses that maintain all of our academic/athletic programs. The result, like always, will be a run at another league and CIF Championship.

A thank-you to everyone who had a hand in building this fabulous football facility, our Superintendent Dr. Kent Bechler and the Board of Education and to those who have been involved and continue to dedicate themselves to Cougar football.
